Newly Elected Guatemalan Party Leaders Visit Community Radio Hub

On Saturday October 8, 2011, recently elected congressmen from the LIDER party (one of the leading Guatemalan political parties), visited the training facilities of Cultural Survival partner Mujb `ab` l yol (a federation of 24 community radio stations)The delegation included the congressman-elect for the city of Quetzaltenango July Xicayan, congressman-elect Noah Quijivix,  and campaign coordinator Noah Gomez. The goal of the official visit was to understand the services provided by community radio stations before promoting the proposed telecommunications legislation (Initative 4087) that is currently being debated in Congress.

Taking advantage of this delegation, the radio journalists asked that the delegation members sign a document stating that they would support the new legislation legalizing community radio, which they did.
