A proposed bill to ban “Indian” mascots from California schools was rejected in a 35-29 vote on May 28 by the state assembly. Had it passed, the bill would have applied to such mascots as the “Apaches” and “Redskins”. Democratic Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg plans to amend and resubmit the bill within a week.
