The Pataki administration has postponed efforts to institute a new tax collection plan for goods sold to non-Indians on NY reservations due to strong objections by the Seneca Nation. Seneca tribal leaders claim that the state does not have the right to collect taxes according to treaties signed in 1794 and 1842.
