UNITED STATES: School district offered over $700,000 to boost Native American education

The Mesa Public Schools district in Arizona was recently offered $714,787 in federal grants to enhance their Native American Education Program. The program encourages the education of 2,800 students from Mesa, the Salt River Reservation, and the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. Program faculty regularly meet with parents and Indian leaders to ensure the cultural integrity of its services. Participating students have already shown considerable improvement over the past five years.
