The U.S. government has postponed the decision of whether to place 70,000 metric tons of radioactive waste on Yucca Mountain. The site -- chosen from a shortlist of nine in the 1980s -- is still owned by the Western Shoshone people, according to the 1863 Treaty of Ruby Valley.
