UKRAINE: Roma Rights Group Pushes for Justice in Murder Case

On the morning of October 28, 2001, five members of the Romani Fedorchenko family died from injuries sustained in a fire started by arsonists at their home in the village of Malaya Kakhovka in central Ukraine. On May 22, 2002 the European Roma Rights Center sent a letter to Acting Chief Prosecutor of Ukraine M.V. Garnyk, urging him to use all of the powers of his office to bring to justice those responsible for the murders. The Center is concerned by the Prosecutor’s failure to respond to a previous letter and at the lack of progress made in the case.
