UGANDA: President pledges to aid Pokot disarmament

President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has pledged to work with the Kenyan government to disarm the Pokot warriors on the Kenya-Uganda border after completing the Karimojong warrior disarmament in his own country, New Vision reports. Museveni’s recent announcement is the latest development in an ongoing attempt to foster peaceful relations between the Turkana and Pokot peoples in northwestern Kenya and the Karimgong and Sabiny peoples in northeastern Uganda. In June 2005, Uganda’s defense minister and Kenya’s internal security minister agreed to share intelligence information and encourage simultaneous disarmament to end cross-border disputes.
