SUDAN: Rebel army reaches agreement with Didinga people

The rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and the Didinga people of the southern Equatoria region last week announced the signing of an agreement to end years of conflict. In a document signed August 12, the two sides described the pledges of cooperation and reconciliation that emerged from a four-day conference attended by SPLA officials and around 170 Didinga delegates, in addition to representatives from nearby Toposa, Latuka, and Dinka communities. The two sides jointly apologized for the destruction and loss of life caused by the fighting, and resolved to work together to find solutions to the many problems facing Sudan.
