Though a peace deal was promised by the government to the Sudanese people by the end of January, talks have ceased for a three week hajj, or Muslim pilgrimage. Many Sudanese argue that this is an excuse to avoid controversial land settlements, including the Nuba Mountains, where the Nuba indigenous people suffer frequent human and land rights violations.
