After 11 years of economic sanctions, the European Union has decided to resume development aid to the NIF (National Islamic Front) government and allow European companies to invest in Sudan ’s oil industry. The decision was made despite the government’s refusal to cease bombing targets in southern Sudan . This is seen as severely undermining the needs and demands of southern Sudanese in the developing peace process.
