SOUTH AFRICA: Pilot project to administer sterile circumcision tools

Eastern Cape tribal leaders met to set up an initiative to distribute packets of sterile circumcision tools to local communities before the summer’s traditional circumcisions take place. The project hopes to maintain culturally relevant practices while promoting the health of those who undergo the procedure, preventing the spread of diseases like hepatitis and HIV/AIDS caused from improper cleaning of circumcision knives.
