Around 30 Romani representatives from Slovenia gathered this past week in Murska Sobota to hold their annual meeting on issues facing Romani communities and the progress being made to address them in Slovenia and abroad. Romanies from Macedonia, Austria and Hungary will also be in attendance. The group will focus on the health of Romani culture in these and other countries, and will review promising new programs to improve education and political organization in Romani communities. The organizer of the meeting, Jozek Horvat-Muc, said not enough has been done to improve the financial lot of many Romani families, and to address the fact that they still suffer from widespread discrimination.
