After 10 years of repeated claims by indigenous and civil organizations, the government has declared the formation of the Reserva Comunal Amarakaeri (RCA), a territory covering 402,335 hectares in the Department of Madre de Dios. The Harakmbut, one of the original indigenous groups pressing for the now reserved land, are to be responsible for most of the territory's management.
