Indonesian police in the province of Papua said that they killed one and injured and arrested others while a group of separatists, in an attempt to form an independent Melanesian state, tried to raise an illegal flag. Local television stations announced that a twelve of the twenty separatists were arrested. The incident took place in central Papua in the town of Wamena.
