Sealskin prices are high and many Nunavimmiut are hunting seals despite efforts in the past to ban such hunting. A major international campaign twenty years ago resulted in many restrictions across the world. The U.S. does not allow sealskin imports, but most Canadian sealskins are exported to Denmark. Seal hunting does not seem to be threatening the stock in Canada, as harvest levels are far short of the massive numbers in the 1960’s.
