NUNAVUT: First Inuinnaqtun workshop hosted

The Department of Culture, Language, Elders and Youth hosted the first Inuinnaqtun terminology workshop from Oct. 7 to 11, 2002, in order to promote opportunities for residents to address issues concerning the vitality of the Inuinnaqtun language. "We must ensure both Inuinnaqtun and Inuktitut develop so that they will not become obsolete languages. The department is committed to making this possible," said Department Minister Anawak. New terms, including key words for government and medical documents, will be added to their Living Dictionary on the web. This is the only project of the Official Languages and Services Division, which will discuss with the central government how to fund Inuktitut and Inuinnaqtun programs.
