As the rivalry between the Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic militias continues over ownership of the Niger Delta, the death toll has increased to at least 45 people in the past four days of combat. Both Royal/Dutch Shell and ChevronTexaco have large investments in this region, but their operations have remained unaffected by the conflict thus far.
