More than 23,000 Fulani pastoralists have fled Nigeria’s Taruba State to neighboring Cameroon, following unprovoked attacks by a militia group in which 96 Fulani were killed and thousands of their cattle stolen. Nigerian authorities have yet to arrest or prosecute the known militia members, leading Fulani to believe that local politicians may be involved in the activities.
