NEW ZEALAND: Protestors denounce prison construction on Maori sacred site

The ongoing protest at the 350-bed Northland Prison, near Kaikohe, is continuing despite the commencement of construction. The prison is located on land sacred to the Maori. Demonstrators were removed twice by police prior to construction, but are now allowed to remain on the site after agreeing to abide by specified rules and protest peacefully.
