The Maori Council is considering seeking an injunction to stop the Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission’s asset allocation model, which is going to be presented to the Fisheries Minister next month. The lawyer representing the Maori Council claims that the $700 million plan outlining how fisheries will be shared by stakeholders is unfair to urban Maoris. The plan would give less than $20 million to urban Maoris, who make up 80% of the entire Maori population.
