NEPAL: New project to empower kamaiyas

The International Labor Organization (ILO) is planning to donate $485,000 to fund the Sustainable Elimination of Bonded Labor in Nepal Project. The project aims to provide kamaiyas –formerly bonded laborers - with skills training, vocational education and other income generating activities. The ILO hopes that the project will benefit approximately 14,000 ex-kamaiyas, of which it is estimated that 8,000 are homeless and landless.
