NEPAL: Angry Gurkhas demand equal benefits and pay

Gurkhas, soldiers drawn mostly from Nepalese hill tribes to serve in elite infantry units of the British military, have historically been known for their bravery and loyalty. Since 1816, Gurkhas have served worldwide, from India to Argentina to Brunei. Complaining of discrimination in pay, pensions, promotion, and compensation to widows, a number of Gurkhas have begun legal proceedings against the British government in a case that could cost the British Ministry of Defense $2.95 billion.
