NAMIBIA: Prime minister appeals for Epupa dam support

Prime Minister Hage Geingob has appealed to Namibian media to portray his N$3.3 billion Epupa dam project in a positive light after a recent visit to Swaziland’s new Maguga dam, which is reported to have created 1,700 new jobs in Swaziland. Geingob complains that international concern over the environmental effects of the proposed Epupa project have obstructed development in Namibia. However, if built, the dam would flood hundreds of miles of land vital to the survival of Himba herders who live along Kunene River.
