MYANMAR: U.S. House of Representatives passes bill for sanctions against Myanmar

Lawmakers in the US passed the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act of 2003. This act imposes trade restrictions on Myanmar's military junta, freezes the regime's financial assets in US banks, and installs a visa ban on regime members who try to enter the U.S. The Act passed with a vote of 418 to 2. The U.S. Senate has already passed a similar bill. The two bills will be reconciled and sent to President Bush for his approval.
