MIDDLE EAST: Four die in clashes in Turkey

Officials confirmed that one soldier and three Kurdish guerillas were killed amid clashes in southeastern Turkey. Although the fighting between the PKK and the Turkish armed forces has dropped in recent years, battles still erupt sporadically as rebels slip back across from the border shared with Northern Iraq. Over 30,000 people, mostly Kurds, have been killed in the PKK’s struggle for a sovereign nation in southeastern Turkey since 1984.
