Three Mixe were killed and ten others wounded yesterday when a group of Mixe Indian activists attempted to seize the town hall of San Miguel Quetzaltepec in Oaxaca. According to a spokesman for prosecutors in Oaxaca, the clash occurred when the group – which is opposed to the current mayor - stormed the town hall claiming that the local government was stealing public funds. The activists were met with violence from local officials and others loyal to the mayor in an attempt to defend the building.
