MEXICO: International Day of Indigenous Peoples celebrated

On December 23, 1994 the United Nations (UN) General Assembly decided that during the International Decade of the Indigenous Peoples (1995-2004) a special day should be celebrated for indigenous peoples. This past week, on August 9, the UN led the celebration of the International Day of the Indigenous Peoples ofthe World, with music, speeches and other events at its headquarters in New York.
