Land clearing for farming in the Cameron Highlands area is having significant effects on local Orang Asli communities, as well as posing serious risks to the environment. R. Ramakrishnan, Chairman of the Regional Environmental Awareness Society of Cameron Highlands, has reported that hill clearings and illegal water pipe connections are contaminating local water supplies used by the indigenous Orang Asli, a state of affairs that could result in serious illnesses.
