KURDISTAN: Kurds say Turkish troops will not be tolerated in south Kurdistan

Reports on July 21, 2003 pointed to Jalal Talabani’s, the General Secretary of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, statement that Turkish troops would not be allowed into south Kurdistan (northern Iraq). Talabani also added that he was fully aware of Turkey’s intentions: to abolish the federal administration in south Kurdistan, take weapons from the Peshmerges, and abolish the Kurdish parliament.
