KENYA: Pokot Among 90,000 Threatened by Famine

The Kenyan government reported this week that as many as 90,000 people are threatened by starvation in the northwest part of the country. An official cited widespread crop failure due to a lack of rain as the cause of the crisis. Around 7,000 bags of relief maize have been sent to the affected area, but authorities are appealing to NGOs and private charities for further assistance to avert the catastrophe. The pastoralist Pokot are indigenous inhabitants of the region.
