KENYA: Ogiek participate in National Constitution Conference

Kiplangat Cheruiyot, head of the Centre for Endangered Languages, reports that he and two other Ogiek representatives have been appointed to attend the National Constitution Conference starting this week in Bomas, Kenya. Charles Sena and Joseph Sang will participate as official observers at the conference, and Cheruiyot will attend to report on the events. Cheruiyot reports that the conference, being attended by over 600 delegates, will go on for 45 days. President Mwai Kibaki has promised a constitution that will respect the rights of the country’s indigenous and marginalized minority communities.
