The UNDP’s Drylands Development Centre to combat desertification and environmental degradation in sub-Saharan Africa was launched by Kenyan Vice President George Saitoiti on February 11 in Nairobi . Saitoiti stressed the Centers failures in the past was due largely to insufficient tapping of indigenous groups’ knowledge and solutions to environmental problems.
