Masoud Barzani stated that his party, the Kurdish Democratic Party, has no plans to dissolve the peshmerga, the Kurdish armed militia, which he stated is purely a defensive force. This is a blow to the U.S. that wants to unite Iraqi Kurdistan with the rest of Iraq as part of the reconstruction process.
