Indigenous Peoples Day is about honoring Indigenous resistance and celebrating the contributions of Indigenous Peoples all over the world. In this newsletter, we celebrate the activism of Antie Pua Case from Hawaii, and other activists around the world who fight to protect our mountains, rivers, valleys, and our Earth.
One of Antie Pua's callings is defending and speaking for Mauna-a-Wākea, a mountain in Hawaii, which has great cultural and spiritual significance to the Indigenous Peoples of the island. Antie Pua speaks of her passion and activism against proposed development on the mountain. We recognize Indigenous Peoples' contributions to defending Mother Earth as we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day this October. The program ends with a song by Taino artist Brother Mikey, who produced "Like the Mauna", inspired by the Indigenous People of Hawaii's efforts to protect the sacred Mauna.
