INDIA: Naga rebels demand

The Naga tribes of north eastern India have embroiled in armed conflict for years, demanding the integration of key Naga-inhabited regions in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam into the Indian state of Nagaland. The government of India is eager to reach a settlement, but residents of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam are vehemently opposed to their territories being taken over by Nagaland. The assembly of Naga elders, including the Hoho and other Naga organizations, said no settlement plan is acceptable unless their demands for these territories are met.
