The Orissa government has changed certain laws in order to address the increasing encroachment on and fraudulent acquisition of tribal land by non-tribal individuals. The changes are meant to bolster the protection of tribal land rights, with stiffer penalties for non-tribal individuals who commit fraud and more rigorous standards governing the transfer of tribal lands.
