GUATEMALA: New indigenous plan to respond to government coffee policy

Along with other organizations, the National Indigenous and Campesino Coordinator (CONIC), has established a plan to bail out Guatemala’s coffee workers. According to sources, the new plan, involving the education of “campesinos” as to how to obtain land and develop marketable production strategies, will likely break with free-market policies. The UN development program has pointed out that nearly 60% of Guatemalans live in poverty.
