Makrina Gudiel, an indigenous woman and a former “rebel” during the Guatemalan civil war, is a congressional candidate for the Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity party in the country’s upcoming elections. Gudiel is reaching out to indigenous women with her message on rights to education and shelter as well as protection from domestic violence.
