GHANA: Conflict predicted between Christians and traditionalists

As communities of Ga Dangbe state prepare for their annual harvesting ceremonies in May, tensions are already on the rise between the traditional and Christian sectors of society over the impending ban on drumming. Every year, in preparation for "sisai adjoo" (a community dance with the ancestors), all drumming and dancing is banned throughout the state by traditional leaders in order to usher in the spirits. This has caused conflict and violence in the past between the celebrators and Christian community members, who feel their rights are infringed by the ban.
