A hundred illegal immigrants, most Iraqi Kurds, were willingly removed from a church in Calais, France, last week, ending a five-day standoff. They were challenging the government's denial of access to a newly closed Red Cross refugee camp. Two-thirds have now applied for political asylum in France, and will be given temporary housing while their request is processed.
