On Friday, July 18, the Fiji Supreme Court ruled that members of the opposition Labor party must be included in the government’s new multi-racial cabinet. The Prime Minister Qarase is faced coping with the ruling and attempting to quell public fears. The public is concerned that the decision, which forces the mainly ethnic Indian Labor Party to work with the Fijian nationalist government, will ignite ethnic tensions and create an unworkable government.
