FIJI: Affirmative action, grants for indigenous peoples boosted

Social Justice Regulations are part of a twenty-year affirmative action program initiated by the Fijian government to reserve a minimum of 50% of government contracts for indigenous peoples. In the past, the indigenous Fijians and Rotumans only received between $5 and $10 million of the $100 million the government issued in contracts. The affirmative action program is designed to increase indigenous ownership and participation in Fiji’s corporate economy and its communities.
