A joint resolution called the Official Memorandum of Understanding has been reached -- between the Shuar and Achuar people of the Ecuadorian rainforest's Oriente region and two U.S.-based organizations, the Institute for Human Rights, Peace and Development, and Life for the Amazon. The resolution calls for full commitment to preserving environmental integrity and cultural survival, the promotion of indigenous rights, and transparent and accountable policies for management of the rainforest and promotion of development.
