TAlmost four million dollars will go towards for the formation of a biosphere reserve in the ancestral territories of the Achuar people, according to a letter of intent signed by Achuar leaders, the Ministry of Environment, and the German Development Bank (KFW). The multi-component project will provide funding channeled through FINAE, the Achuar governing federation, to carry out the participative territorial planning and zoning process in their territory. If the project works as expected there is the possibility of bridging the project to a similar conservation project being proposed in the Peruvian Achuar territory. After receiving several visits from the German bank over the three years, FINAE was selected due to its strong internal organization, successful legalization of ancestral territories, and transparent economic structure.
