CROATIA: Roma children file suit against education system

This week the European Roma Rights Center assisted 57 Romani schoolchildren in filing a lawsuit against the Croatian Ministry of Education and the local government of Medimurje County, for discriminatory policies in the primary school system. Up to 60 percent of Romani children in the county are segregated into separate classrooms from other children -- based solely on ethnic identity -- and are resultantly subjected to inferior educational opportunities and psychological injury. ERRC plans to present the case to the European Court of Human Rights should the outcome in local courts prove unsatisfactory.
