COLOMBIA: Paez community negotiate release of kidnapped Swiss aid worker

When two aid workers committed to working for indigenous rights were kidnapped by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), hundreds of members of the Paez nation peacefully negotiated for their release. Florian Arnold and Ramiro Pita were kidnapped from the school in which they worked Tuesday. Pita was released shortly after his abduction, but Arnold remained in captivity. Members of the Paez nation who had worked with Arnold organized a support campaign, and acted quickly by surrounding the FARC vehicle holding him. Unarmed, the group convinced the rebels to release Arnold by late Wednesday night.
