Three Embera Katío leaders, Horacio Bailarín, Arturo Domicó, and Misael Domicó, were killed on December 6 in the northwestern region of Urab&aaucte;, Colombia. The leaders were taken from their homes in the community of
Ibudó in Las Playas indigenous reserve by 10 men dressed in camouflage,
according to the Resource Center of the Americas. They were taken to the nearby
Ibudó River where they were met by other armed men and executed. The bodies
of the indigenous leaders were not found for two days. Members of the Indigenous
Organization of Antioquia and the executive committee of the National Indigenous
Organization of Colombia said this delay was due to threats by the assailants
of future punishment if the bodies were retrieved. On December 8, Senator Gerardo
Jumí said at a press meeting that "information and indications" show
that the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia are the likely perpetrators.
ONIC reports that 357 indigenous Colombians have been murdered since 2000.
