The Canadian Arctic Resources Committee (CARC) has started a four-year project to critically examine the cumulative environmental and social effects of development in the Slave Geological Province, a large region in Canada covering parts of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. The goal is to offer information to aboriginal communities, aiding in the communities' decision-making about how best to control the development of the region's diamonds and gold while minimizing destruction of the environment anddisruption of traditional ways of life.
