CANADA: First Nation opposed to pipeline construction

The Deh Cho First Nation of Canada has launched a campaign to prevent the construction of a multimillion dollar pipeline through their native territory in the Northwest Territories. An oil consortium comprised of Shell, ExxonMobil, Conoco Phillips, and Imperial Oil hopes to build the 800-mile pipeline to provide gas for consumers in the United States, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. First Nations leaders told the Chronicle that the pipeline will bring little or no economic benefit to the tribe and will wreak havoc on their lands. Shell and ExxonMobil executives explained that the requests from the Deh Cho First Nation were "unreasonable," according to Indianz.com.
