CANADA: A different medicine: a different legal treatment?

Courts here are facing a difficult problem: the question of whether aboriginal medicine is absolutely legal. The recent death of an elder, reportedly treated with a remedy potion containing both tobacco and ayahuasca—a herbal remedy long used by South American aboriginal peoples—has recently led to the imprisonment of the Ecuadorian healer Juan Uyankar. 200 other people are also reportedly to have been ministered without incident by Mr. Uyankar.
